During mentoring trainees realised that actual practitioners and not just theorists were training them. One had tried other training opportunities but felt that he had done courses with "kids" and the tutors were only amateurs. The project gave him the chance to train with the "real thing". He reckoned the training was excellent and second to none.

It was also a learning opportunity for some of the trainers and mentors. For one trainer this was first time teaching experience and he was worried about his inexperience. This was ill founded since trainees enjoyed the session and found his teaching style informative and relaxing.

Another trainer learned "that some people respond better by not peering over their shoulders, so it is better to let them make a mistake and come back to them later." He also summed up the attitude of the trainers and mentors to the trainees. "Every one of the trainees was enthusiastic and that has the knock on effect of wanting to pass on knowledge to them."
