Steering group; made up of representatives from the partners,
mentors and a representative of the trainees. Their role has been to
monitor the project against targets budgets and outcomes. Four steering
group meetings have taken place throughout the project and there have been
full and frank discussions. Trainees; have been included in the content of the project, by individual discussions, training needs analysis, group discussions at some of the training courses and evaluation forms and letters, such as that sent half way through the project. Course evaluations have been completed at the end of instructional days. The trainees’ representative on the steering group, reported that he had consulted all of the other trainees and that without exception, they all felt that it had been a really good project and very worthwhile. For him it had been a "Dream come true". Instructors; completed evaluation forms at the end of instructional days and have been involved in the steering group. Lantra; performed a monitoring visit to help improve the quality of instructors. The full report has been included in the report sent to the Government Office for the South East but a short extract on the training provider stated. "Good standard of organisation and services evidenced in the running of this course. The instructor and candidates agreed that the standards of instruction delivery, venue facilities and organisation have been excellent." NVQ Assessor; has been closely involved with recruitment and training throughout the project. Auditor; The accounts were audited in mid February and sent to the Countryside Agency as a mid project check. All was found to be correct. All information generated throughout the project has been checked and passed as part of the final audit. 1.

15 candidates received pre-entry assessment & counselling as
part of the Taster Day. 4. A total
of 13 trainees have participated in the project. 5. Ten of
the beneficiaries completed the project from start to finish, one dropped
out due to ill health and one left early to start a full time
self-employed 4-year contract in Forestry.
One trainee joined the project as a replacement for the early
leaver halfway through the training. 6. 13
beneficiaries received a confidential TNA interview. A summary report has been produced. 7. 15
beneficiaries received a taster day experience. 8. 10
beneficiaries received a minimum of 25 days customised training. 9. 10
beneficiaries received a minimum of 8 days mentored work experience. 10. 3
beneficiaries have received driving lessons. 11. A
total of 52 instructional days were delivered. 12. 17
days of industry Mentored Work Experience (MWE) were delivered. 13. 10
days of ranger MWE were delivered. 14. An
additional total of 7 days of guided learning hours were delivered in the
form of Taster day, NVQ Portfolio building briefing, Foot & Mouth
disinfecting procedure, Forestry Commission information on Woodland Grants
and information on the industry from the Wessex Coppice Group. 15. A
total of 12 business plans have been produced. 16. 9
beneficiaries received chainsaws to start their own businesses.
