The following charts show the
return potential for quality hazel coppice:
Chart 1 Chart 1 shows the potential offered by lower quality hazel coppice with an expected higher overall cost of restoration as more acres need to be restored.
Chart 2 Chart 2 shows a lower acreage to be restored but a higher potential per acre with this higher quality coppice. The coppice restoration costs are expected to be higher per acre but, overall, will be lower as less acres will need to be restored to this commercial quality. The restoration costs could be high. For an area of 5,000 acres the costs could be as high as £3,000,000, however, with expected product sales of over £5,500,000 per annum this provides an excellent commercial opportunity. The amount of coppice restored to grade 1 commercial coppice would be determined by the size of the markets available.
